La primera vez que la escuche fue en master and comander y como me
gusto busque más informacion en la red. Es del periodo entre 1793 a 1796
cuando los buques ingleses atracaban con frecuencia en puertos españoles ya que entonces teniamos una alianza con la "Perfida Albión" en contra de la Francia revolucionaria. La canción describe una singladura desde España a los Downs, en el canal de la Mancha.

No te creas, a lo mejor sí:
Me parece que es esta la canción que cantan los marineros en la cubierta en Master & Commander, ya sabes cuando el guardamarina empieza a cantar también y todos callan (primero porque es un gafe, segundo porque traspasa la frontera entre el alcazar y el resto de la tropa).

También creo recordar que esta canción la canta el viejo pescador Quint en la primera película de Tiburón, durante la única noche que pasan a bordo antes del ataque del tiburon al día siguiente.

Es para la cultura anglo-sajona la canción del marino por excelencia.
