My new boat has marelon thru hull. After 3 years, the shut off did not work. Replaced it. After 1 year again, it did not work. Read the instructions, it needs lubrication every 6 months. No big deal. Lubed it and it works great!

Last time I needed a 1 1/2 for my pumpout all they had in stock was a marelon for like 90 bucks so I tried it, was doing all the thru-hulls, wanted the job done that day. I pull the hoses and lube all valves each year. The marelon got hard to move anyway and seeped a few drops last time I used it at 3 years old. I got paranoid and just bought and installed a new bronze in its place. I know some people like the marelon, I just never trusted it.

Any bronze through hulls below the waterline must be bonded. You should be able to attach a bond wire using a ring terminal on the mounting hardware.

You used the correct thru hull fitting. Anything below the water line should be bronze. The polymer thru hull fittings have been known to be responsible for the sinking of some well known boat brands in the past because they failed."
