[Marencalma]

Es muy ilustrativo lo que decían ayer día 9.2.08 los del PV después de pasar el Estrecho con un temporal de levante:

Being close to the coast protects us a little from the wind and the waves, but we went a bit too far just before, a little too close and lost the wind for a while. The wind is more NE when close to the coast. We were sailing with a stay sail, we are about 30miles from Malaga. We have had to change down to a storm jib with 35 knots, the sea is white. It is beautiful but quite stressful on us and the boat!
We are aware that the mast and the keel... are "tired" now, so we're a little concerned. This is the first time in the whole race that we have had to use the storm jib. We have very little sail area up, but we are doing 10 knots close to the wind, so it's alright, although its not too good a heading.

Dan la vuelta al mundo en una regata a vela por los mares más temibles y la primera vez que usan el tormentín es precisamente... ¡en el Estrecho! (el Estrecho, por antonomasia, sólo hay uno...).

Es verdad que dicen tener el mástil y la orza "cansados" (?) y que la vuelta al mundo se realiza en su mayor parte con vientos portantes, pero aún así es curioso y muy ilustrativo de lo duro que puede ser el levante en Tarifa (todavía se me pone la piel de gallina cuando recuerdo alguna de mis experiencias en esa zona, y eso que tenía el levante por popa).
