The crew of supermaxi Scallywag blamed their poor Sydney to Hobart finish on a run-in with a shark, which damaged the boat's rudder on the final morning of the race.
Scallywag led the pack through most of Friday, before slowing overnight and finishing fourth.
Crew member Larry Jamison confirmed in Hobart on Saturday that the slow-down was the result of hitting a large shark off the Tasmania coast.
