El pionero Hans Hass cumple noventa años


Con una trayectoría documentalista a recordar, el legado que ha dejado para los amantes del buceo no tiene precio






La leyenda del buceo y documentalista subacuático Austríaco Hans Hass, que formó parte del escuadrón de buceadores de élite de Hitler durante la segunda guerra mundial y medio ambientalista más tarde, cumplió 90 años el día de ayer, 24 de enero.
Nacido en Viena, Hass es considerado un visionario del buceo a grandes profundidades además de una de las influencias más importantes en el desarrollo y evolución de la filmación submarina.
"Siempre trataba de hacer cosas nuevas. Cosas que no hubiese hecho nadie antes", dijo él una vez.
Hass, que durante gran parte de su carrera como buceador se sirvió de sus propios recursos, tratando de evitar subsidios de terceros, produció más 24 documentales televisivos y seis películas, ha publicado 31 libros y ha trabajado para la BBC además de otras productoras de importancia.
Descubrió su pasión por el buceo cuando se fue a la Riviera francesa tras graduarse de la escuela a la edad de 18 años. Durante la segunda gran guerra, Hass tuvo que servir en el Wehrmacht Nazi, y gracias a sus grandes habilidades como buceador, fue asignado al batallón conocido como "Los combatientes del mar", un grupo de élite fundado en el 1943 cuya misión consistía en explorar las instalaciones portuarias enemigas, eliminar sus embarcaciones y destruir puentes y presas.
En el 1951, su película Abenteuer im Roten Meer (Aventuras en el Mar Rojo), se hizo con el "Gran Premio" del "Biennale Film Festival" de Venecia.
Ocho años más tarde, Hass fue honrado con el Outstanding Underwater Photographer of the Year, en Los Angeles, y más recientemente con el Golden Honorary Medal of the city of Vienna, en el 1999.
El pasado domingo, Hass ya celebró su cumpleaños en el Museum Kunsthistorisches de Vienna (Museo de Historia Natural) junto con su esposa Lotte Baierl, con quién lleva casado desde el 1950, que cumplía los ochenta.
