Mientras tanto, os copio una reconstrucción del esquema de las negociaciones en Singapur. El que escribe, en SA, tiene buenos contactos:

The timing of the filing puts the response due before the end of January, but just barely. BOR/GGYC had delayed the filing by a week already, by that point. They had delayed it overnight into the second day of meetings, but time just got too tight. The final deadline was the end of the second day meeting, 1pm Singapore time, check the timestamp on the announcement. Alinghi knew this, it was made perfectly clear.

They talked arrangements even after the filing, even got a counter offer from Alinghi after the filing, that RC instructed them to sign, that TE and RS signed, with the ISAF as witness to the signing. And yet at the last minute, as people were basically catching flights - that agreement was turned down too.

So they ARE trying to get it all resolved ahead of time. The comprehensive agreement reached seems to have included resolving everything. Hamish was key to that process. The parties had at least two substantial agreements, the final one after the filing. Overruled - almost assuredly by Ernesto. It came that close.

I think that EB, like GS has claimed too, and SimonN latches onto, are drinking the koolaid that BOR is desperate for time, that holding them to Feb 8 is their key to victory on the water. With so much riding on that bet, it seems a pretty dangerous one to make.

Obviously we don't have the agreement format, but the suggestions by RC that Alinghi should have more time to comply with building Swiss sails, he mentioned March 8, indicates that this was too big a problem for EB, for whatever reasons. Either he thinks it hurt his competitive chances; or else he had no use for that time anyway; or it would have been self-incriminating to have to go build sails in Switzerland; or he wanted no part of Rita's offers; it's really hard to say what's on his mind. And yet the Alinghi statement refers to "BOR wanting more time" - contrary to what RC has said, repeatedly. The breakup in Singapore has a smack of emotions overruling logic. Both teams could use more time, but both can race Feb 8 too.

Y aquí un breve texto del New York Times. Tillet, de la ISAF, dice que todo había ido bien, hasta que, a última hora, una de las partes se negó a firmar las reglas.

Quick America's Cup Settlement Expected

MADRID (AP) -- A witness to the failed America's Cup negotiations between Alinghi and BMW Oracle expects a quick settlement.

David Tillett, chairman of the international jury for the 33rd edition of the race, says the event is not ''a dead duck'' and he expects the teams to work out their differences in time for the best-of-three series, which starts on Feb. 8.

Tillett told The Associated Press the negotiations went smoothly until the ''11th hour,'' when one team balked at signing the agreement over the race rules.

BMW Oracle says that Alinghi rejected an agreement at the last minute, while Alinghi claims the Americans broke off the talks.

BMW Oracle took the Swiss champions to court over the construction of its sails, which threatens to push back the start date.
