yo me hice esa mima pregunta hace unos meses
el récord absoluto de velocidad a vela lo ha conseguido el Francés Finian Maynard, con windsurf el año 2005 registrando 48,7 nudos; casi los imposibles 50 nudos!! que durante el año 2008 intentará batir el trimarán con foils. Actualmente la velocidad punta máxima registrada por el Hydroptère es de 47,6 nudos.
El record actual de máxima distancia recorrida en 24 horas es para el catamarán Maiden con 695 millas.
a motor, para los que dicen que para correr el motor; el récord está en 275 nudos de velocidad (sobre un calmado lago)

4th September 2009: New achievement. The wind barrier has been exceeded over 500 meters resulting in a new outright world sailing speed record. Alain Thébault and his crew also improved the world record over one nautical mile. l’Hydroptère has now become the fastest sailing craft on the planet with the following speed results:
48.72 knots of average speed over one nautical mile
51.36 knots of average speed over 500 meters
8th November 2009: l’Hydroptère ended the absolute speed record campaign with an exceptional achievement i.e. she exceeded the 50 knot wind barrier over one nautical mile. l’Hydroptère established a new world record at 50.17 knots.
