Retomando el hilo del tema. Un verano cualquiera nos dio a 4 emocionados por navegar en meternos en Ketch 32 pies de madera y acero, auténtico barco pirata donde los haya con mas de 30 palos a la espalda. Unas velas de batalla, y encima pequeñas. Zona 5, sin ningún tipo de equipamiento de seguridad, por señalar que las luces de navegación las compramos en un chino. Farolillos del jardín que nos encargamos de colocar en el tope de palo. Eso, digamos que era lo más que teníamos como medio de seguridad. Un motor que hacia lo que le salia de los coj..., baterias con duración para un día, y si había que encender el motor ya no teníamos batería. Todo esto hay que decir que eramos unos novatos de libro claro esta.
Con una jarcia apañada con ñapas de todos los barcos que nos prestaban material, conseguimos llegar a Calpe, cruzamos a Ibiza, andamos por las Baleares un mes y volvimos para contarlo. El día que llegamos a puerto, entrando de nuevo por el puente del Estacio, no dabamos crédito que hubiesemos vuelto como nos fuimos. Un auténtico naufragio, .

„Proof of Principle” stands for the world first attempt to cross the North Atlantic in an only 16 foot (4.90 meters length) sailing boat single-handed, nonstop and without any external assistance from east to west and subsequently from west to east by the dreadful northern route.

These two record crossings should prove the performance and durability of FIPOFIX-UD positioning technology.
Norbert Sedlacek departed Les Sables d’Olonne (FRA) on 10.11.2013 to New York (USA) under the greetings of many hundred fans as well as in the presence of the international press. The Open16 FIPOFIX was trailed between numerous escort boats and in the presence of the honored representatives of the city and the region through the channel of Les Sables into the open ocean, the FIPOFIX team got off the tow, a hard blow of waves and our first 100 % made from FIPOFIX- volcanic UD fibers prototype took the route.

Within few minutes our small boat disappeared between the green- gray waves of the stormy Bay of Biscay. The bright yellow hull appeared again and again in the foaming sea, each time fighting against the stormy waves. And few minutes later the mast tip disappeared on the rough horizon. Our ultimate performance test began.

One day later the skipper Norbert Sedlacek reported the first blackout on board of our FIPOFIX. Unexpectedly the electricity was broken down.

While the hull of the boat continued to struggle against the running wave crests, Norbert Sedlacek tried to locate the source of the electricity problem on board. The inspection revealed that the problem cannot be solved by on-board tools. Norbert Sedlacek decided to join the Spanish Biscay coast to find a permanent solution for the electricity problem. To keep control of the boat and to pass through the busiest ocean shipping lines without an avionics and a motor would be a simple madness. It might peril the safety of our real project which is to prove and to ensure the quality of FIPOFIX- products as well as the life of the skipper.

Few days later, location is Gijon (ESP) and it’s time for reflection. One thing is certain about the project: the first record attempt must be restarted after the electricity problems. Unfortunately the FIPOFIX had also a collision with a floating object in the port of Gijón and two stainless steel bolts of the rudder hinge fixation are broken. But the new route and the recent restart date are cleared up: 12/01/2014 from Gijon (ESP) to St. Augustine (USA).
Another issue is also confirmed, the strong material resistance of the boat hull and a great media interest as well as numerous inquiries from different industrial companies which can establish further business cooperation.
The complexity of this project and its economic perspectives made it necessary to change the skipper. Norbert Sedlacek has decades of experience in the sailing world, but his project organization skills and ability to develop the product can serve more on shore than on board of the FIPOFIX. Our small boat has proven to be hard as a rock and we have a team available to make a replacement in the cockpit of our FIPOFIX.
Harald Sedlacek will take the skipper place on the Open16 FIPOFIX for the restart on 12/01/2014. It won´t be just the start for the Open16 FIPOFIX, it will be the first run and the entry into the single-handed extreme sailing world for Harald Sedlacek. The 32-year-old newcomer has already successfully sailed more than 21.000 sea miles including 9.000 sea miles single-handed in the different sea routes.

With this sailing adventure he has a chance to affirm not only his yachting technique, but also to reconfirm himself as a skipper. As a "co-builder" of our Open16 and a responsible for the final preparation of the boat for his father, he has a potential base to run these two records successfully.

Harald Sedlacek will therefore depart Gijón on 12/01/2014 to St. Augustine and on 10/05/2014 from St. Augustine back to the original port of departure in Les Sables d'Olonne. He will sail approximately 8,450 nautical miles single-handed, non-stop and without any external assistance partially in the dangerous ocean waters with a boat which is not only shorter than the average wave height, but can be a prey of the deep-sea sharks. Within the estimated sailing time of 80 days, the Open16 FIPOFIX provides only 1,5 m² of "protected" area. But the challenge of this adventure is familiar to both of them and it didn’t change. The "Proof of Principle" is and remains to be an ultimate endurance test for a man and a machine. But now on board the prototype Open16 FIPOFIX will be a young extreme sailor which will replace the experienced "sea dog".
As our innovative products, we have also revised our project "Proof of Principle" to optimize our chances of success in sports and to achieve technical and economic results. Yo no tengo gran experiencia en este tipo de travesías; la más notable, el verano pasado desde Cangas en la ría de Vigo hasta O Freixo en la ría de Muros en dos etapas para subir y de un tirón (50 millas, más o menos) de vuelta, a bordo de un Tiki 21.
Lo que miro antes de salir, la meteo, la meteo y la meteo. Aquí en la costa atlántica las mareas son importantes pero a bordo de una embarcación que cala 40 cm. (sí, menos de medio metro!!!) eso no preocupa mucho. Considero imprescindible hacerte antes una idea de donde vas y lo que te puedes encontrar allí (cartas, mapas, google, lo que sea, toda información es poca), y hacerte un plan "razonable" de navegación. Y por supuesto conocer bien tu barco, tus posibilidades (seguro que tu barco es más que tú, jajajaja, al menos en mi caso), y posibles alternativas si la cosa se pone peor de lo que te esperabas... Y llevar equipo de comunicaciones, aunque sea una pequeña radio de mano, insumergible y estanca (el verano pasado casi hubo una tragedia en la misma ría de Vigo porque volcó una embarcación ligera y nadie les había visto; pasaron una hora en el agua hasta que los de una trainera que estaba entrenando llamó a salvamento marítimo...).
Ahora, que he crecido (cambio de eslora, 8 metros, que no sé si me seguirán considerando "pequeño") seguiré subiendo el listón, saldré más lejos, más tiempo (y tendré más cuidado con las rocas porque esto cala 1'20), pero mi filosofía de navegación "SLOW SAILING" seguirá siendo la misma: navegar con lo mínimo imprescindible, disfrutando de la propia experiencia de navegar más que de una "expresso" o de cubitos de hielo en el GT.

Nuestras experiencias son escasas si no nulas, nuestro velerito es un 18 pies, y por ahora lo sacamos cuando podemos pues vivimos a unas horas de la costa y nuestro velerito lo metemos y sacamos del agua. Perro en fin es lo que hay. Por ahora no hemos salido mucho de la bahia de Cadiz, pero nuestra intención en breve son dos navegaciones para nosotros largas para otros insignificantes. Serian una desde el pto de santa maria a Conil y otra a Chipiona. Sigo esto con mucha ilusión y se me llena el corazón con esperanza leyendo lo que otros han hecho.
