bien, acaba de caer en mis manos. Además, tengo la "mala" costumbre de tener dos o tres libros comenzados, por lo que mi lectura es más bien "por entregas".

Pero, por ejemplo, mirar esto. Da una idea del estilo del autor:

"It should never be forgotten that this was how the British Empire began: in a maelstrom of seaborne violence and theft. It was not conceived by self-conscious imperialists, aiming to establish English rule over foreign lands, or colonists hoping to build a new life overseas. Morgan and his fellows "buccaneers" were thieves, trying to steal the proceeds of someone else's Empire."

Otro de los análisis del autor expone que la introducción del "crédito" en las finanzas inglesas (procedente de Holanda, cuando los ingleses echaron a James II (era católico y escocés...) y pusieron al príncipe holandés William of Orange en el "trono") supuso a la larga la potencia económica necesaria para realizar grandes empresas (British Navy, por ejemplo). Los otros imperios, con sistemas financieros muy anticuados, tenían grandes dificultades para "colectar dinero" para financiar proyectos.
