no estoy muy de acuerdo en esta ultima afirmacion (con el resto del post lo has bordao)...

Yo creo que para ser capaz de hacer un buen pronostico fiable del tiempo, en general (y en el particular en el mar) hay que cotejar ambos mapas: los de superficie y los "en altura"...

Los mapas en altura permiten ver contrastes termicos acusados de masas de aire asociadas a importantes gradientes de presion atmosferica, todo ello en altura, que es donde se gestan las perturbaciones meteorologicas que despues percibimos en la superficie

Tienes toda la razon, quiza no he estado fino ahí, yo mas bien me referia a que cuando estas navegando y recibes partes a traves de BLU o Iridium, normalmente basas tu estrategia y haces tus previsiones con los mapas de superficie; los mapas en altura los suelen interpretar los centros de informacion meteorologica y ya te dan la informacion masticada, del tipo del Navtex:

High 1038 hPa on Spain, weakening a bit tomorrow. Low 1015 hPa in north of Genoa Gulf filling slowly.
