"Li-Ion batteries self-discharge at about 5-10% per month due to the monitoring circuit. They have no memory effect, and life expectancy is around 500-800 cycles according to how much, or how little, the battery is discharged from full before recharging. They can be damaged by overcharging. Their major disadvantage, however, is the little-publicised fact that they have a relatively short shelf life causing an irrecoverable loss of capacity by about 20% per year (when stored fully charged and at 20°C) from the date of manufacture. For best storage life, the battery should be discharged to 40% charge and stored at 0°C, as this decreases the loss of capacity to only 2% per year. So it might be best to keep the battery in the fridge when not in use".
