Los hay con mala suerte



Es una cosa después de la otra para el PRB. Vincent Riou parte para su calificación el 4 de agosto y alcanza Port La Forêt a las dos de esta mañana (el viernes) habiendo completado 3100 millas en vez de 3500 millas requeridas según las reglas de la Vendée Globe. La razón era simple: el patrón sufrió otro golpe de mala suerte durante su viaje Atlántico. Esta vez, ha sido un contenedor el que dejó su huella en el PRB.

Mientras él iba a unos 15 nudos en 35 nudos de viento durante la tarde del lunes, 11 de agosto, el monocasco golpea un contenedor que Vincent fue capaz de ver en la ola de proa una vez que el incidente había ocurrido … Fué la deriva la que sufrió en esta colisión con el bloque de acero que pesa varias toneladas. Las dos terceras partes de ella se rompieron causando daño a la parte inferior de su alojamiento, con una vía de agua. Al examinar los daños, Vincent decidió dirigirse directamente para el Puerto La Forêt e informó a los directores de regata y los organizadores de la Vendée Globe acerca de lo ocurrido. Por controlando la escora del barco, la vía de agua no representaba una verdadera amenaza a Vincent y el PRB.

Quedan pendientes 400 millas..

Era por lo tanto a las dos de la madrugada hora local cuando el PRB llegó a su puerto base. Los organizadores de la regata han pedido a Vincent que termine su calificación antes del 18 de octubre navegando solamente 400 millas. Esta tarde, el barco fue sacado del agua. Como estaba planificado, el PRB pasará unas semanas en el varadero. Entre las mejoras que tienen que hacerle: se carenará el barco entero, la aplicación del antifouling a la quilla, la fabricación la estructura antirociones con unos nuevos portillos en la caseta, el cambio de los cables de la jarcia, una revisión y reparación mecánica, y ahora el trabajo adicional del alojamiento de la deriva. Un nuevo mástil también será construido en Crain en La Rochelle.
El PRB debe ser botado de nuevo el 5 de septiembre. ¡El regatista de Loctudy permanece positivo, agregando que al menos antes de partir en la Vendée Globe, él habrá navegado muchas millas a solas sobre su monocasco, cubriendo el equivalente de un tercio de la vuelta al mundo!

It is one thing after another for PRB. Vincent Riou set out on his qualifier on 4th August and reached Port La Forêt at two this morning (Friday) having clocked up 3100 miles instead of the 3500 miles required by the rules of the Vendée Globe. The reason was simple: the skipper had another stroke of bad luck during his voyage in the Atlantic. This time, it was a container that left its mark on PRB.

As he was sailing with the wind on the beam doing 15 knots in 35 knots of wind on the evening of Monday 11th August, the monohull hit a container that Vincent was able to see in the bow wave once the incident had occurred … It was the daggerboard that suffered in this collision with the block of steel weighing several tonnes. Two-thirds of it broke off causing damage to the bottom part of the housing, leading to an ingress of water. On examining the damage, Vincent decided to head directly for Port La Forêt and informed the race directors and Vendée Globe organisers of what had happened. By controlling the heel of the boat, the ingress did not pose any real threat to Vincent and PRB.

Still 400 miles to cover...

It was therefore at two in the morning local time that PRB reached her homeport. The race organisers have asked Vincent to set sail again to finish his qualifier before the 18th October by sailing 400 miles alone. This afternoon, the boat was taken out of the water. As initially planned, PRB will be spending a few weeks in the yard. Among the jobs that need to be done: careening the entire boat, applying anti-fouling to the keel, making the hood watertight with the fitting of some new portholes in the cockpit, changing the rigging cables, a mechanical overhaul, and now there is the additional work to the daggerboard housing. A new mast will also be built at Crain in La Rochelle.
PRB is due to be relaunched on 5th September. The yachtsman from Loctudy remains positive, adding that at least before setting out on the Vendée Globe, he will have sailed many miles alone on his monohull, covering the equivalent of a third of the round the world voyage!
